CARE LEVEL

Moderate – thrives with regular care and attention to watering and lighting. A hardy option, ideal for plant parents with some experience.

LIGHT

Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its glossy, deep green foliage. Tolerates moderate to low light, but growth will slow. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

WATER

Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Allow soil to dry out between waterings – ZZ plants are highly drought-tolerant. In winter, reduce watering significantly as the plant may go dormant. Ensure pot has excellent drainage to prevent root rot.

HUMIDITY

Tolerates average household humidity well. No special humidity requirements but appreciates occasional misting or being near a humidifier in particularly dry environments.

FEEDING

Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser, diluted to half strength. Do not fertilise in autumn or winter.

LEAF CARE

Gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and enhance their natural shine. ZZ leaves are naturally waxy and dark green.

PET FRIENDLY?

Not pet safe. Contains calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children.

EXTRA TIPS

• Yellowing leaves? Likely due to overwatering or soggy soil.
• Wrinkled or drooping stems? May be underwatered or experiencing low light.
• Grows slowly – be patient, especially in lower light.
• Can handle a bit of neglect – perfect for forgetful plant parents.
